Therapy for Religious Trauma in Minnesota
"Trauma creates change you don't choose.
Healing is about creating change you do choose,"

Church Hurt and Confusion
Maybe you have felt hurt or betrayed by a spiritual leader or fellow member of your faith community. Maybe some of the things you have been taught or believed don't sound right or feel right anymore and don't feel like they fit where you're at. When all of this leads you to a place of questioning, "deconstructing" or wanting to walk away all together it can feel scary and disorienting. This was suppose to be your constant, your solid ground and now things feel unsteady.

Religious and Spiritual Trauma
Difficult experiences that happen around spiritual, religious or faith-based institutions or activities are especially painful. We have often believed that these are places of protection, safety and care. So, when we experience pain in these places, we not only experience the hurt associated with the event, but our sense of safety, judgement and trust is called into question and shaken. Spiritual/Religious trauma can lead to us mistrusting ourselves and the world around us leaving us feeling unmoored in an unsafe world.

Longer therapy sessions and Therapy Intensives are particularly beneficial for healing after religious trauma. Intensives give plenty of time and space for the system that feels guarded and unsafe to establish a sense of calm and safety long enough to be able to bring the healing our scared and wounded parts may need.

In combination with IFS, Intensives can help our protective parts feel less defensive and on guard and our hurting and lonely exiled parts get the healing they deserve. And this healing can help us trust again.
